Hong Kong Customs yesterday (August 9) smashed a crack cocaine manufacturing centre in Tai Kok Tsui resulting in the arrest of a 26-year-old man and the seizure of drugs valued at about $5.2 million.

Officers of Customs Drug Investigation Bureau yesterday smashed a crack cocaine manufacturing centre in a domestic flat in Tai Kok Tsui and seized about 2.8 kilogrammes of cocaine, 1.6 kilogrammes of crack cocaine and some drug-manufacturing apparatus. Officers later escorted the suspect to his residence nearby and seized another 300 grammes of crack cocaine.

The suspect claimed to be unemployed. The Group Head (Drug Investigation), Mr Hui Wai-ming, said today (August 10) that the suspect was arrested for drug manufacturing and trafficking. The case is still under investigation.

Under Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, both drug manufacturing and trafficking are serious offences. The maximum penalties of both offences are life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
