The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (January 17) announced that it has banned theimport of all poultry and poultry products, including poultry eggs, from Kings County, Brooklyn, New York, the United States, with immediate effect.
"The decision was made after receiving notification from the relevant American authority about detection of avian influenza H5 in a live bird market. Virus isolation results are still pending for confirmation by the American authority," a CFS spokesman said.
"We are seeking further information from the relevant American authority and will closely monitor the situation," the spokesman added.
